The name

What “Whiskey Down” means

Order rye toast in a busy kitchen and you invite confusion. Rye bread, rye whiskey, rye anything — the word does too much work over the noise of a griddle.

Our family can remember when shouting “rye toast” in the kitchen could get confused for the wrong side. “Whiskey down” became the way to get it right decades ago, and it’s a bit of history we pay homage to.

The shorthand stuck, long enough that it became a name worth putting over a door. It says what we are: an American kitchen that takes the familiar seriously.

The Chicken Caesar Sando is absolutely amazing — the fried chicken cutlet is crispy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the Caesar toppings. The waitstaff and bartenders are always friendly and welcoming.

I got the lobster roll everyone’s talking about. It was VERY good, if not one of the best out there — filled generously with chunks of lobster, and the bread was crispy.

The food is off the charts. The choices range from awesome egg dishes, poutine twists, Benedict 2.0, ridiculously delicious pancakes and French toast, chicken and waffles, and more. Our waiter was mindful of every detail and so pleasant.

Drove from the Bronx after seeing videos on TikTok, and the hour and a half was worth it just for the mac n cheese bites. My husband devoured the lobster roll.

Found this gem on Google Maps when stopping in Long Island. The lemon pancake and the bacon banana pancakes were delicious. The staff is very friendly and made our stay lovely, and the booth seats are always a plus.

So yummy. Went with two friends and we each thought the food was delicious. Large portions, everything beautifully displayed. Loved the outdoor seating, and the manager came out to greet us and was very personable.

I try to get out here at least once a summer because there are so many good choices in food and drink. The poutine is always a good choice.

Really good food. I got the Family Reunion. My wife got sourdough toast that was absolutely delicious and the best thing I tried today. I am excited for their Babylon location to open.
